The Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science values student input on matters that affect their education and success on the UBC Okanagan campus. The Faculty includes undergraduate and graduate student representatives on Faculty Council for one year-terms where the student representatives have the opportunity to vote and advocate for their peers.

About the Faculty Council: The Faculty Council is the governance body responsible for the direction of the affairs and business of the Faculty. The Council is tasked with establishing and revising policies, practices, and the general direction for the teaching and research activities of the Faculty, and with making recommendations to the Okanagan Senate.

Nisha Choudhary is a second-year student at UBC who is considering majoring in physics.

In her role as the new science representative, her primary goal is to actively listen to students’ opinions and concerns, ensuring that they feel valued and heard in the academic community.

As a student, her mission is to be a bridge for her fellow peers, helping them to voice their academic challenges. She also aims to establish a safe and welcoming space where students can easily approach her with course-related problems or any other issues.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she has a deep passion for a wide range of activities, such as exploring new places, painting, dancing, cooking, and outdoor adventures. She always strives to strike a balance between her studies and personal life, and  encourages others to do the same.

Xavier is a third year Science student from Singapore, doing a double major in Earth and Environmental Sciences and Computer Science.

As someone who believes that life is all about making the most of your choices and goals, he is more aware than most about the struggles of balancing studies and other aspects required for a holistic lifestyle.
He believes that while engaging in discussion is important for progress and
improvements, a point of discussion is required for this to happen. By providing a listening ear for students’ feedback, Xavier aims to be a voice for students, providing different perspectives for the Faculty Council discussions.

In his free time, he tends to be found dancing or playing the piano. He is always interested in trying out new and fun activities, and loves to live in the
moment
